Nederlandse Tamaskan Club (NTC):
GENERAL APPEARANCE:
The Tamaskan is a large and athletic dog. The dog should have a wolf-like appearance with a coarse/thick coat, small ears and a straight/brushy tail.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:
The height of the body is longer than the dog is high (the steep height).
CHARACTER:
The Tamaskan is a friendly, social and affectionate dog. The breed must not be aggressive or TOO reserved compared to humans or other dogs. The high level of intelligence makes him versatile as a working dog and loyal comrade.
HEAD:
In balance with the body. Forms a wedge between the eyes.
SKULL SECTION:
Skull: Slightly bent.
Stop: Light/Moderate.
VIEW AREA:
Nose: The pigmentation of the nose, lips and around the eyes should be black. A snowy nose is allowed.
Snout: Long, straight nose bridge. Shouldn't be pointed.
Lips: Closely fitting.
Teeth: Jaws strong and symmetrical. Well developed teeth and no missing elements, Scissor teeth.
Cheeks: Sufficiently muscular and not hanging.
Eyes: Eyes are yellow, amber to orange and brown. Almond shaped and of medium size. Blue eyes are a disqualifying mistake. Closely fitting eyelids.
Ears: Medium in size, but small in relation to the head. The ears are triangular in shape and slightly rounded at the ends. Far apart on the skull. Carried forward and upright.
Neck: Slightly bent, long and strong.
BODY:
Topline: Level topline with a slightly sloping croup.
Schaf: Well muscular, pronounced.
Back: Sturdy and straight.
Loin: Short, well muscular, not wide, slightly inclined.
Croup: Short, not wide, slightly sloping down.
Lower Line/Belly: Tight belly, raised.
TAIL:
The tail is wide and must reach to the jump joint, but not beyond. At rest, the tail should be carried down, but when the dog is excited or moving, the tail is carried higher. The tail should not curl over the back. Coarse thick hair, but not feathered.
IN ADVANCE:
Front legs: The front legs are straight, close together and the feet should be slightly outward.
Shoulders: The shoulder blade is forward, well muscular.
Upper arm: Strongly muscular.
Elbows: Snug, not twisted in or out.
Forearm: Long, clean and straight.
Feet: Long arched toes.
BACKHAND:
Hind legs: Hind legs powerful, the hind legs are parallel. Hubertus claws (also called wolf's claws) are not desired.
Upper leg: Long, well muscular. The hip joint is sturdy and flexible.
Knee: Strong, flexible.
Lower leg: Long, pure, well-med.
Heels: Long, pure. Low on the ground.
Midfoot: Slightly oblique, strong, flexible.
GAIT/MOVING:
Light, balanced but powerful fluid movement similar to that of a wolf. Massive ground cover.
SKIN:
Tight, without wrinkles.
COAT:
Right, closed. In winter, the coat differs when an impressive under coat is formed all over the body including the inside of the ears. Well covered neck. The coat should form a light collar around the neck and shoulders.
COLORS:
Black-Grey, Wolf-Grey and Red-Grey, always with a black covering and characteristic wolf mask. Solid colors are unacceptable.
SIZE AND WEIGHT:
Height of the rift
* Adult Males: Between 65 & 75 cm.
* Adult Tas: Between 60 & 70 cm.
Weight
* Adult Males: Between 30 & 45 kg.
* Adult Stas: Between 20 & 35 kg.
ERRORS:
Any deviation from the preceding points should be considered an error, and the severity with which the error should be considered must be proportional to the degree.
DISK QUALIFICATION ERRORS:
– Atypical eye color
– Incorrect ear costume
– Incorrect markings
– Incorrect tail costume
– Fear & Aggression
N.B.: Males should have 2 clearly normal testicles, which have completely descended into the scrotum.
